Jennifer and Sean Rahner

Sean and Jennifer Rahner

Sean and Jennifer Rahner are the creators of The Shepard Project. After moving from Aiken where they were members of the local PFLAG organization, they were dismayed to learn there were no Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) in Richmond County. After some urging from Richmond County parents, the Rahners decided to create a safe space for LGBT youth (ages 13-20) to meet weekly outside of school hours. Currently holding meetings at the Augusta University Summerville campus, the Rahners and several mentors give local LGBT youth an outlet to socialize freely. While both Sean and Jennifer had limited support growing up, they are being honored for helping a new generation discover there are new opportunities and support for LGBT youth now. They hope that the organization will continue to grow and look forward to any help from individuals that would like to assist in donating items or mentoring.
